Art as Activism
Local artist and Community activist Deirdre Earl is hosting a two month course. They are introducing youth to Activism in art throughout Art history. In two months students will create works in a multitude of mediums based on an issue they feel passionate about. Guest artists with activist backgrounds will join a class to share their practice. Materials will be provided. Personal supplies are welcomed. Please bring your own sketchbook.

Youth Shakespeare Theatre Camp is FULL!
Shakespeare Camp takes place in a fun and encouraging setting with theatre professional Rebecca Dewey as instructor. For ages 8 - 18 with an interest in the performing arts.
Join in the theatrical fun! Students will have the opportunity to work on a variety of acting skills such as improv, teamwork, rhythm, character and performance. Rebecca and the students will also work together to create a shortened, original version of one of William Shakespeare's plays, with a performance for family and friends at the end of the week. 10am - 3pm Daily!

BEETLEMANIA - cardboard relief sculpture
Students will create a high relief sculpture using layers of cardboard, pipecleaners, beads, and paint it with acrylic paints.

VISUAL ALPHABET LETTER
Using coloured pencil and watercolours, design a letter filled with creatures whose name begins with the letter chosen, studying medieval manuscripts.

ABSTRACT LINE DESIGN
Create an abstract art piece using marbles dipped in paint to create a random pattern that is then painted in bold coloures.

FAUX METAL EMBOSSING
Using tin foil, glue lines, and shoe polish, explore the printmaking techniques used in embossing with your choice of subject matter.

BEATLEMANIA - CARDBOARD RELIEF SCULPTURE
Create a high relief sculpture using layers of cardboard, pipecleaners, , and beads, and paint it with metallic acrylic colours while studying the works of Pablo Picasso.

ANIMAL SILHOUETTE COLLAGE
Create an abstract animal silhouette using strips of cardboard from cereal boxes, exploring the PopArt movement.

AMMOLITE COFFEE PAINTING
Try painting with unusual materials, such as instant coffee, to create an ancient ammolite from the prehistoric era.

LILAC WITH QTIPS
Using bound-together Qtips, create the effect of lilacs using acrylic paint on canvas.

PAPER QUILLING HEARTS
Explore the art of paper quilling (rolling and bending of paper) to create a high relief paper sculpture using coloured paper and cardstock.

Pine Cone Wreaths
Students will learn about the history of wreaths, using pine cones gathered in the fall to create and then decorate their own wreaths.

Students will create low-relief snowflakes using glue, salt, and tempera paint/watercolour.

Students will explore subtractive carving using plaster as a base to create 3D sculpture of a gargoyle they design themselves.

Students will focus on shape as a design element and work with tree silhouettes (The Burmis Tree) creating an abstract fall background with circular shapes with felt markers, thick and thin.
