Meet Me at the Movies is back!
On and off for 25 years, this program has brought selections of the best Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) films to Pincher Creek and more recently the Crowsnest Pass.
Crowsnest Pass Public Art Gallery is excited to show 8 independent films this Fall at the Orpheum Theatre in Blairmore. For the first time, we are partnering with Stone’s Throw Cafe for a Monday evening out. Cafe will be open 5:00pm - 6:30pm for your pre-film snacks and beverages. But don’t forget to save some space for popcorn at the Orpheum! See you at the Movies!

At the Place of Ghosts follows siblings who have drifted apart after experiencing unimaginable horrors in their shared past. When they return to their home community following an unexpected visit by a malicious spirit, the pair must put their estrangement aside in order to rid themselves of the ghosts that haunt them. In order to do so, they will have to journey through Sk+te'kmujue'katik, a forest where time collapses on itself. Bretten Hannam has created a work that is not only a ghost story but an interweaving of Mi’kmaw culture and the colonial history of the East Coast.

The Art of Adventure

In 1957, renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman and spirited biologist Bristol Foster set out on a global expedition in a rugged Land Rover they call “The Grizzly Torque.” Starting in the UK, their travels take them to the far corners of the earth. From the lush rainforests of the Congo to the vibrant landscapes of India, Bob paints the wonders they encounter, while Bristol films on his 16mm Bolex camera. Fifty-seven years later, the abandoned Grizzly Torque is rediscovered. As its hidden history emerges and a new owner restores it to its former glory, the tale of their environmental activism through art and science unfolds.

Under his guidance these teens will come to know the transcendent joys of singing together, while steeling themselves for their impending conscription. The Choral reminds us of the importance of cultivating community and using art to process anxieties and generate hope.

Adapted from Tove Jansson’s beloved novel, The Summer Book is a delicate account of growing up and growing old, beautifully filmed on 16mm in majestic natural light.
